Ross Aitchison is an architect with Collective Architecture, Glasgow.
He has recently led the collaborative development of an intergenerational strategic plan for a '21st Century Village' for The Crichton Trust in Dumfries, which won the Scottish Design Award Gold Award for Masterplanning in 2022. This has sat alongside work delivering a range of strategic, housing and cultural projects across Scotland for Local Authority, Private Sector Developers, RSLs and community organisations.
Ross’ career has meant that he closely understands the key economic and planning policies affecting development across the breadth of Scotland. He has worked with key national, regional and local stakeholders and organisations to deliver projects from individual dwellings to city-wide strategies. His work means he has been at the forefront of projects that take a cross-cutting, multi-agency approach to sustainable change, including Scotland’s first NPF4 ready masterplan.
His role and past experience has shown that he is a dynamic and collaborative team player, who works with others in an open and collegiate way to deliver the best outcomes. He listens, takes balanced approaches and has extensive experience of communicating often complex topics and issues to a variety of stakeholder groups - from the general public to policy makers. Ross has extensive experience leading workshops and engagement events with involvement ranging from local residents on street stalls to meeting key personal from local authorities and statutory public sector bodies.
Outside of practice, Ross was a Co-Founder of Architecture Fringe, Scotland’s independent festival of architecture and I am a past committee member of the New Glasgow Society. He has also taught at the University of Edinburgh, and been a guest critic at the Schools of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art and the University of Dundee.
Ross has been published in a number of architectural journals, undertaken a range of public speaking events and also has experience of undertaking media duties on national television and radio broadcasts.
